UK instrumentalists Zonderhoof turned more than a few heads with its 2006
demo (we noted the feeling of uneasiness it left in its wake); here's hoping
the rest of you will get the same sense of emotional whiplash with this
four song EP. The beauty of this release is that the band knows that all
the fancy guitar parts in the world don't matter for shit if you don't have
some good riffs keeping it all together. 'Bilge Rat', 'Varkens', 'All Your
Witches and Bitches', and 'Zub' have plenty of the latter, which gives them
the luxury of piling on the former. The best moments bring to mind Keelhaul
slowed down to a mean crawl. Overall, this is a killer stoner-sludge-doom-metal
hybrid with some heady atmospherics and plenty of repeat value.
