Pretty akin to what the Melvins were launching at domes circa Bullhead

Four tracks, 30 minutes 'instru-metal', nothing uttered. Is it too obvious to talk about the first Pelican mini-album? Zonderhoof, a quartet from Cardiff who all use 'foreign'-sounding pseudonyms for, presumably, their own amusement, may well think so; it was (is) a killer record, though, the smoke trails of which Pelican have been chasing ever since, and 'Zonderhoof' reminds you of hearing it for the first time. That said, the overall aesthetic is doomier, grimer, and more primal, pretty akin to what the Melvins were launching at domes circa 'Bullhead'. Somewhat reclusive in their 18 months or so together, it's good to see labels keeping the faith with bands of Zonderhoof's nature. (7/10).
